Bedrock Bar and Grill- Best Steak in Singapore?

Bedrock Bar and Grill, the first time i heard of this was early this year, recommended by Jac.  She said that it was very good, and said wanted to bring me there for lunch.  That had not happened, so I thought that I could check out the place first.  If Jac said is good, it could not go too wrong.

Bedrock Bar and Grill was located at the Pan Pacific Service Suite Singapore, just adjacent to Sommerset 313.  I was a bit lost, and went to the wrong exit, and took a longer turn.  If you are going, take the exit that goes to 313.

We were warmly greeted by the waiters upon entering.  The first thing that caught my eyes were a huge rack of meat, (I assume it was beef since this was a steak house).  The decor was mainly made of wood, and the places was quite small, with a few soft seats on the right.

A warm and friendly waitress came to our table, showing us the menu, and telling us the wine list. I thought she was new as she seemed rather nervous and speaking very fast.

We settled for this Spanish Red Wine.  Like in other restaurant, she let us tried the wine.  I knew nothing about wine, but it sure taste good!  I always wondered what would happened if i said that i do not like the wine..will they refund it?

She has kindly brought out another new bottle for me to take photo of it.  Very sweet of her, bringing service to the next notch.
The pita bread as appertiser.  It came with a whole garlic.  I am not a big fan of pita bread with garlic, I thought it should go with curry.  It was quie unusual that they served Pita Bread.
The big 400g giant.  Look at the fats and the thickness...

My 200g beef tenderloin, medium.  She has recommended medium rare, but i was afraid that it would be too bloody.  She assured that it would not be, because they aired their steak.  Indeed, it was not bloody.  Some parts of the meat was a bit red, but it was tender and juicy, simply melt in your mouth.  And i thought that 200g was just nice, too much of it will result in dimishing marginal return.
Dark Chocolate cake with some french cream.  I did not like the french cream, tasted a bit sour.   Chocolate cake was a bit too sweet for me.  I am always contradicting myself.  I like desserts, but it cannot be too sweet! And desserts are sweet, aren't they?  We had french fries as side.  Normal, nothing to complain.

It was a satisfying dinner, heavenly steak with great wine.  Between Bedrock and Morton's, Morton's still scored slightly higher due to their wonderful desserts.   Is it the best steak in Singapore?  I do not know.  Maybe we should do a blind test.  However, with the price difference, Bedrock is definitely a gem to satisfy your craving for steak, without too much damages to your wallet.  The only complaint that I had was that they had a two seating policy, 630pm-830pm or 830pm - 1030pm.  I do not have enough time to finish and savour my steak!  Will be back.

Dinner with my Favourite Pastor

This is a yearly event.  I would meet my favourite Pastor for dinner, to celebrate her birthday.  Since is a big event, I usually would think of some where with good food.  This year, I have decided to bring her to Gordon Grill, highly recommended by Polo.  Fixing the common date was as usual the challenge, as Pastor is very popular, lots of lunch and dinner invitation.  Thank God we fixed one, and not too far from her birthday.

I was the first to arrive at the restaurant at 5 mins to 1900Hr.  Decor looks a bit dated, and smell of some air freshner stuff.  But overall dimly lited, good enough for dates.
We went for the UOB $128++ for 2 menu, and added the wine pairing at $50++, with 2 glasses of wine for each person, so total of 4 glasses.

They start with complimentary bread basket with 3 different kinds of bread.  Warm and soft.
Starter:  Cold Pasta with Caviar!  Very tasty, and the lime gave the sour twist, great way to warm up your taste buds.
Starter 2:  Pan Fried Foie Gras with Quail.
I was wondering what's the animal that I was eating, til Pastor told me that it was quail.  Well, as usual, I asked the waitress to verify :-)
Soup.  Don't be deceived by this innocent looking soup.  There were lots of goodies in it, such as truffles, abalone, and a yoke!!  We decided to skip the yoke as it was a bit too rich.
The legendary beef cheeks with tenderloin, highly recommended by Polo.  She even told me to call to check if they have it on the menu! haha  But she was not wrong!! The beef cheek was soft and tender, absorbed all the gravy, it melts in yoru mouth.  The beef tenderloin was juicy, and even at medium well, it was still soft.
Close up:
The sweets:  Hazelnut chocolate waffle biscuit with ice cream.  Taste good, but too sweet for us

Other than the dessert that was too sweet, the rest of the food were simply fantabulous!!! It was a great night catching up with my Pastor.  Really glad that she enjoyed the food and the night as much as I did.  I pray that God's blessings will be upon her, everyday of her life.  Amen.

Les Bouchons Rive Gauche - GT's birthday

We went to Les Bouchons Rive Gauche at Robertson Quay to celeebrate GT's birthday.  GT always talked aboout the fries of Les Bouchons, he said that they were made of real potatoes.  While I was checking it up at HGW, the rating was kind of low, main complaint was the service.  Nevertheless, we went there since GT likes the fries.

The reservation was at 7pm.  I reached there at 645pm, wanted to go in, and was stopped by the waitress.  She told me cooly, "Sorry, we are open at 7pm"  "Can i go in and wait?" "No! Maybe you can go to the wine cafe nearby?"  Alright, I gave up, so i went near the river to take a stroll, and went back to the restaurant at 7pm.  GT was already there when i reached, and to my surprise, he was allowed "entry" at 650pm!  Ahhh..so much about service..

One of the sauce to go with, the rest were mustards.
Salad
Look at the golden chunky fries!  They were really nice, crispy on the outside, and soft in the inside!

Creme Brulee, which doubled up as the birthday cake as they did not have any cakes.  The disadvantage was that the creme brulee was soft, such that the candle became wobbly, and you had to blow the candle really fast!  The birthday boy was really fast, before I could sing a sentence of the birthday song or take photo, he blew the candle!!  We finished with coffee, that was served with chocolate.  I would not return for the steaks, I found it normal for the price that I had to pay, the fries were good though.  But then again, would i return to pay $32.90 for fries?  The wine list was not extensive, and the price was on the high side.  Ambience was good though.  It was a very relaxing night to sit outdoor, facing the river.  The icing on the cake was the nice and cool weather.  Having said that, there were a couple of restaurants near the river that would have the same ambience.  I would recommend Aston for better value steak..

Belated Birthday Dinner - Astons Specialisties

Please do not be alarm!  Yes, I am still having my birthday feast, though this it now belated.  This time, i checked out Aston Specialisties with my cell members.

We were supposed to be there at 7pm, but Auntie was 20 minutes late and plus the bad jam at PIE, we were 30 minutes late.  Poor Lena & Lynne had to endure people who were eyeing their table staring at them.  I chose the Aston at Katong, because this was the best out of all the Astons.  However, Auntie was not too happy with my choice, because Katong is notorious for parking.  We managed to find a lot, but she gave it up as she did not know how to parallel park.  So we parked at a private estate instead, and Auntie said that could save some money.  This was also why Auntie was called Auntie.  Though she was the youngest among us, she behaved like an auntie.  She haggled over 10 cents, lazy and favourite activity was to be a couch potato.  In summary, she did not behave at her age!

Wine for the night.  This was a strategic move to order wine, to prevent more stares!  So Lena ordered wine to buy some time..Aston's price was reasonable, $32 for a bottle of wine, quite reasonable.

We had the same dish, Ribeye Steak.  The only difference was the side dishes.  At $16.90 for Ribeye Prime Cut, you could choose 2 sides, either hot or cold.  The sides were the usual baked potato, baked beans, salad, greens, onion rings, french fries, mashed potatos.  Food was decent, given the price that we paid.  Total damage was $105.  Very reasonable.

We had a shock when we reached the car.  I saw a piece of paper sticked on the window, and when we walked closer, we saw that the car wheel was clamped!  A security guard came over to tell Auntie that she parked at private property, in order for him to unlock the clamp, she had to pay $100!!!    That was almost the price of the dinner!!!  From the summon, the car was clamped at 1950Hr, and we arrived at 1930Hr, they were really very viligant to clamp down the wheels!
